Updated: January 18, 2012

We constantly hear about celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow and many others who lose amazing amounts of baby weight very quickly and are back to their pre-baby bodies within several weeks or a few months. How do they lose weight after their pregnancy so quickly? Is there something we can learn from them? Lets take a look.

Keep in mind that celebrity women are highly motivated to lose their pregnancy weight. They are under tremendous pressure from the media, the entertainment sector and the public. Their careers hinge on their looks.

They are generally in great shape prior to becoming pregnant and many of them, such as Nicole Richie, Samantha Harris, and Nicole Kidman continued to work out to some degree during pregnancy.

Celebrity Moms generally have two huge resources available to them that not all people have, and that is money and time. They can buy time by hiring nannies, personal trainers, personal chefs, etc. and they can spend hours a day working out if they so choose. Lets look at diet and exercise choices that celebrity Moms use to lose their pregnancy weight.

Celebrity Diets to Lose Weight After Pregnancy

Many celebrity Moms such as Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Elizabeth Hurley and Catherine Zeta-Jones use a portion-controlled version of high lean-protein (ie. fish, chicken, lean beef) and low carb (ie. whole grains, nuts, fruit) diets with lots of veggies to lose weight after the baby. Some examples of the foods that Cate Blanchett, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, and Christina Aguilera used include brown rice, grilled chicken, steamed vegetables, and green tea.

Many celebrities such as Denise Richards, Uma Thurman, and Jennifer Lopez used a food delivery service that brought proportioned healthy meals right to their door. Jenny McCarthy choose to go with the commercial weight loss program, Weight Watchers. She liked it so much that she became a spokesperson for them. Still other celebrities will choose less healthy methods such as liquid diets or detox diets and some also choose tummy tuck surgery to get their shape back quick.

A large number of celebrity moms (or their trainers) suggest eating several (4-5) small meals a day rather than 3 meals a day or skipping meals. Eating frequently helps keep the metabolism up.

Celebrity Exercises to Lose Weight After Pregnancy

As for exercise, the type of exercise used by celebrity Moms to lose their pregnancy weight is quite varied. Some stars such as Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are fans of yoga while Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani primarily use running as their main form of exercise before and after their pregnancies.

Some other examples, Kate Hudson primarily used a treadmill while Heidi Klum used both strength training and cardio exercises. Urma Thurman included martial arts and sword training skills in her exercise routine. As you can see, the type of exercise is varied but nearly 100% of celebrities included an exercise routine in their plan to get back in shape quickly. The large majority of the ones I have read about used a personal trainer and spent many hours a day working out.

Obviously as “real” Moms we should be careful about placing extreme expectations on ourselves because in general we do not have the resources to accomplish weight loss in such a short time. We do ourselves, our children and our spouses and a favor if we have a realistic plan for losing our baby weight and enjoy spending time just being a new Mommy!

There is still much we can learn from celebrity Moms without pushing ourselves to an extreme. Since they absolutely must lose the weight quickly they must be doing some things right – so, what can we glean from this?

How to Lose Weight After Pregnancy Like the Celebrity Moms

Well, the huge majority of them used healthy foods and ate 4-5 small meals a day. They also participated in an exercise routine of their choosing. The final result comes down to healthy eating and consistent exercise. The key is to find the right diet that works for you and an exercise routine of your choosing that you can enjoy and stick with.

An Established Plan for Diet and Exercise to Lose Your Pregnancy Weight

If you prefer to have a guaranteed program rather than piecing together your own plan from bits and pieces around the internet then you may want to consider Fit Yummy Mummy. It is designed to help Moms lose weight after pregnancy through guidance in nutrition and very effective, time-saving HOME exercises designed specifically for busy Moms. The program is much more sensible than paying megabucks for trainers and meal delivery and it comes with an 8 week money-back guarantee! I wish you The Best with whatever you choose!!

Finding time to exercise is one of the biggest issues Moms face in their post pregnancy weight loss. As a new Mom we are tired, sometimes stressed, and extremely busy. Fortunately, exercise can help you sleep better, reduce stress, and increase your energy level.

This article presents a variety of ideas of how you can incorporate exercise into your busy routine to accelerate postpartum weight loss. Some will be interesting to you and some may not. The perfect exercise solution will be different for each Mom. Success comes by finding the one that suits your schedule and personality.

Before starting any exercise program be sure that you are cleared by your physician. Many doctors do not recommend exercise until 6 weeks after childbirth.

The Surgeon General recommends 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week to improve health and fitness. The minimum length of an exercise session should be 10 minutes. One sample schedule to reach this is to work out 30 minutes a day for five days of each week (or, two 15 minute segments twice a day for 5 days each week, etc). There is a lot of flexibility and that is important for new Moms.

Exercise Solutions for Post Pregnancy Weight Loss:

1) Walking. Walking is a fantastic low-impact exercise for post pregnancy weight loss and improving health. It is a great solution for new Moms to ease back into exercise. Depending on the weather and where you live, you may be able to place your child in a stroller and walk outdoors. If you work, you may be able to walk during lunch. Another great thing about walking is that it doesn’t cost anything (except a decent pair of shoes). However, if you have the space and money, you may want to invest in a treadmill as it allows you to walk in the comfort of your home anytime you wish.

2) Join the YMCA. The YMCA charges a monthly fee but it is usually quite reasonable compared to a gym AND they provide free childcare for their members. This is especially nice for Moms as you can drop your child(ren) off at the child care facility and walk down the hall for a workout followed by a nice shower. I am a member and have always enjoyed a workout and peaceful shower while having my kids close by in case there are any problems. They also have many programs for your kids as they grow such as swimming lessons, indoor soccer, basketball, karate, T-ball, etc. It’s definitely worth checking out your local YMCA. Many times you can get a discount on your membership through the company you (or your husband) work for.

3) Exercise with your baby. There are many different exercises that can be done with your baby to strengthen yourself and lose baby weight. Many of the common exercises like squats can be done with your baby in a carrier or sling. You can do sit-ups with your baby rested against your legs. While lying on your back you could push your baby up and down (if baby is old enough to have good head control). Or, you could lay your baby on his/her back then do push-ups over top of them. Always be sure the baby is safe during the exercises. Search Google for more free advice on exercises or you may want to try some of the exercise DVDs for Mommy and baby from Amazon. There are some yoga DVDs with high customer ratings for Mom and baby.

4) Exercise DVDs. Exercise DVDs are a great way to boost post pregnancy weight loss and there are tons to choose from. They are motivational, they guide you through the workout for a set amount of time, and you feel like you have a trainer or a group encouraging you. One of the best ways to find the right DVD is to look through the selection at Amazon and read the customer reviews. That way you can get a good idea what the exercise DVD is like before purchasing it. You can do these DVDs anytime that is convenient for you like in the morning/evening when your baby is asleep or during naps or you can ask your spouse to take over while you get a work-out in.

5) Short burst exercise. Increase your activity level by squeezing in additional exercise throughout the day. It is better to work out at least 10 minutes straight but if you can’t, you can still increase your post pregnancy weight loss by increasing your activity level. Start looking for various ways you can exercise throughout the day. Do some sit-ups, push-ups, squats, or jog in place while watching TV. Do some squats while waiting on the microwave. Squeeze and release your buttock muscles while sitting at the computer. If you have some free weights, keep them out somewhere convenient so you can use them when you find a few spare minutes here and there. Take a look at tip #3 in our article, Lose Baby Belly, for a great abdomen exercise that you can do anywhere.

Hopefully this article will give you some ideas on how to get moving for speedy post pregnancy weight loss! Remember, exercise is often more fun with someone else so if you know anyone else trying to lose weight you may want to get them on board too! Also, the perfect exercise routine is the one that works for your situation. So, try some different exercise solutions to find the right one for you.

Guaranteed Post Pregnancy Weight Loss

There is an ebook that you can download immediately that has an 8 week guarantee. It does cost some money but if you do not see results you have 8 weeks to get 100% of your money back. The beauty of this program is that it is written specifically for busy Moms to lose the pregnancy weight. The detailed exercises are very targeted so the time spent exercising is minimal. It also includes a motivational section and complete diet plan.

Weight loss after pregnancy really is no different than normal weight loss in the sense that you must take in fewer calories than you burn. The difficulty with losing weight after a pregnancy is that your world is now very different than it was before your baby was born and you are most likely very busy and suffering from lack of sleep (which doesn’t help with weight loss). This article will present some of the best food choices to keep your energy and your mood up while you lose the pregnancy weight.

The key is to figure out what eating choices or exercise choices fit best with your personality and your current situation. There are thousands of different diets and exercise plans out there (for some exercise ideas please visit our article, Post Pregnancy Weight Loss). One of the healthiest ways to accomplish weight loss is to eat foods that are “good” for you and avoid the unhealthy foods (without having to starve yourself). If you do this, eat only when you are actually hungry, and not overeat, then you will lose weight and feel great. A simple plan like this is easy to implement as a busy Mom especially if you like flexibility.

Presented here are some food choices that are not only healthy for you but can also lift your mood and raise your energy level which are two things that most all Moms could use!

Susan Kleiner, PhD, a professional nutritionist for over 25 years and Bob Condor, a health columnist have written a book called The Good Mood Diet: Feel Great While You Lose Weight (excellent customer reviews).

In this book they have a list of “Feel-Great Foods” which are healthy, energizing and mood lifting as well as a list of “Feel-Bad Foods” to avoid. The following list is taken from this book. The book is full of good advice along with “good-mood menus” and recipes for “good-mood comfort foods”. Be sure to check this book out if this sounds like something that would work well for your personal weight loss after pregnancy.
